Batikan Seed And Cedar Necklace Pouch (Sold)

Sold - No Longer Available
This little necklace pouch is woven with the orange inner bark of Eastern Red Cedar, the grey outer bark of the Willow, and the white splints of White Oak. The shiny greenish twined rows are made with Rattlesnake Master leaves. These plants are tall-grass prairie natives that were once commonly found in Missouri. The necklace cord is hand twisted 2-ply cordage made with Basswood fiber. The inner bark is rotted for six weeks in a pond, then rinsed and peeled apart into tissue-thin layers. The latch bead is a Kentucky Coffee Tree bean, and the dangle is made up of a Batikan seed, horn and bone beads, and shell heishi. A piece of deerskin is used for the top closure. All the woven materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants, to the finished basket.
