Honeysuckle And Basswood Rib Basket (Sold)

Sold - No Longer Available
This little rib basket is made with Honeysuckle vines that have been boiled and peeled, and has ribs of Willow shoots. The shiny green cordage is made with Rattlesnake Master leaves. These plants are tall-grass prairie natives that were once commonly found in Missouri. The leaves are hand twisted into 2 ply cordage and used as weavers. The yellow bands are the English Basket Willow shoots. And the white cordage sections are of Basswood fiber, which is the inner bark of the tree, rotted for six weeks in a pond, then rinsed and peeled apart into tissue-thin layers. All the materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees, vines, and plants, to the finished basket.
