Mail Basket (Unavailable)

This basket is made with natural materials harvested and prepared by hand, and carefully woven together. It measures 12-1/4” wide x 4-1/2” deep x 6” high. The base and spokes are made with inner bark strips of Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana). Burgundy weavers are made with the inner bark of American Elm (Ulmus americana). Grey weavers are the inner and outer bark from young saplings of Sandbar Willow (Salix interior). The green twining rows are of Rattlesnake Master leaves (Eryngium yuccifolium), a tall grass prairie plant that was once very common in Missouri. And the white twining rows are of Basswood fiber (Tilia americana). The rim is Red Cedar bark, lashed with thinly split American Elm. The dangle is a strand of a variety of seed beads and antique trade beads, including Betel nuts, Job’s Tears (Coix lacryma-jobi), Salwag nuts, American Lotus seeds (a wetland plant from the Mississippi River), horn heishi, shell beads, and a central Bambona nut.
