Twined Rattlesnake Master Basket (Gifted)

No Longer Available - given in memory of Carol Sanders.
This basket is made with natural materials harvested and prepared by hand, and carefully twined and woven together. Eastern Red Cedar inner bark (Juniperus virginiana) is the material used for the base and spokes, as well as the middle section of herringbone twill. The shiny green material that covers most of this basket is Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium), a tall grass prairie plant that was once very common in Missouri. The rim consists of a band of Red Cedar inner bark, lashed with a very thin strip of American Elm (Ulmus americana) inner bark. The dangle uses antique trade beads, betel nuts, and a central batik bone bead from Kenya.
