Voluta Basket (Sold)

No Longer Available - Sold
This basket is made with natural materials harvested and prepared by hand, and carefully woven together. It measures 6” wide x 6” deep x 5-1/2” high. The type of weaving is called a “chase weave”, because each row of weavers is followed immediately by a row of twining, giving the basket an overall vertical pattern. The base and spokes are made with strips of Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis). Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) makes up the weavers. The twining rows are of Rattlesnake Master leaves (Eryngium yuccifolium), a tall grass prairie plant that was once very common in Missouri. Spiraled around the rim is a length of boiled Honeysuckle vine. The dangles are made with antique trade beads, Salwag nut beads, horn heishi, Job’s Tears (Coix lacryma-jobi), shell beads, and Voluta shell beads.
