Willow & Black Walnut Letter Basket (Sold)

Sold - No Longer Available.
This letter basket is hand woven using several different native species of trees and plants. The silvery grey of the Willow weavers is the outer bark, which is left on when harvested. The black bands are the inner bark of the Black Walnut. The orange is Eastern Red Cedar. The shiny greenish twined rows are of Rattlesnake Master leaves, a tall-grass prairie plant, once commonly found in Missouri. And the white twined rows are of Basswood fiber, the inner bark of a tree also known as Linden. The inner bark is rotted for six weeks in a pond, then rinsed and peeled apart into tissue-thin layers. The seed beads are Kentucky Coffee beans, Job’s Tears, Canna seeds and others. All the materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees to the finished basket.
