Description
This basket has a base and spokes of Eastern Red Cedar inner bark, and is woven with the outer bark of Willow. The central dark twilled arrow band is the inner bark of Black Walnut. The shiny greenish twined rows are of Rattlesnake Master leaves, a tall-grass prairie plant, once commonly found in Missouri. And the white twined rows are of Basswood fiber, also known as Linden. This bark is rotted for six weeks in a pond, and then rinsed thoroughly, and the inner bark is peeled apart into tissue-thin layers. The beads are Kentucky Coffee Tree beans, Job’s Tears, and bone beads. All materials for this basket were harvested, prepared, and created entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants to the finished basket.
