Description
This little necklace pouch is woven with the bark of five native trees found in Missouri. The center black spokes are Black Walnut, and the light brown spokes are Willow. The dark brown weavers are the inner bark of American Elm, and the white weavers are Hackberry. The necklace cord is hand twisted 2-ply cordage made with Basswood fiber (the inner bark was rotted for six weeks in a pond, then rinsed and peeled apart into tissue-thin layers). All the woven materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants, to the finished basket.
