Description
This little basket is patterned after those of the Hupa and Yurok Indians of northern California. They used Hazel, Spruce roots, Bear grass, and Maidenhair fern stems in most of their baskets. I’ve used peeled and split Willow shoots for the spokes, and twined with Rattlesnake Master leaves and Basswood fiber. The different twining techniques are subtle, but effective. The bead is a Kentucky Coffee Tree bean, with banty feathers. All materials for this basket were harvested, prepared, and created entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants to the finished basket.
