Description
The base and spokes of this basket are made with the cambium side of Eastern Red Cedar inner bark. The weavers are Willow bark, woven in a twilled arrow pattern. The green twined rows are of Rattlesnake Master leaves, a tall grass prairie plant that was once very common in Missouri. A technique commonly used among the Northwestern coastal Indians, called a Swinomish fold, is used to finish the rim. Persimmon seeds and Canna seeds make up the dangles. All the woven materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants to the finished basket.
