This little basket is hand woven with strips of inner bark of Eastern Red Cedar<\/b>. The twining rows are of Rattlesnake Master<\/b> leaves, a tall grass prairie plant that was once very common in Missouri. Outer bark of young branches of American Elm<\/b> makes up the center gray weaver. The rim is finished with a technique commonly used among the Northwestern coastal Indians, called a Swinomish fold. The dangle uses a Nassa shell, and three Dentalium shells. All the woven materials for this basket were gathered and prepared entirely by hand, from the standing trees and plants to the finished basket.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
